Portland, Oregon

From Pacific City we headed to Portland to stay with our new friends Angie, Todd, Zion and Brennan. We met them at the Wild Goose festival and were really blessed to be able to stay with them  for a few days – thanks guys!     Some of the highlights of our time in Portland…

Pacific City

We spent two nights at the tiny town of Pacific City (it is somewhat misleadingly named!) Our friends recommended a little campground there, which had lots of wild bunnies running around it – they were so cute!   One of the highlights of the beach there is a giant sand dune which we climbed up…

Shelton, Seattle and surroundings

We stayed in Shelton, Washington with my (Karen’s) friend from work in Auckland. Julie and her family were awesome hosts and we had a really neat time with them.  On our first day there, Julie took us to Olympia, the capital of Washington which is less than an hour from Shelton. There we ate lunch…

Piako makes some friends

After Piako left Canada, he went all through the USA…he survived a car crash and wound up visiting friends in Illinois! He had a lovely time with the Leman family.

Piako goes to Canada

Piako went to Canada. He visited Vancouver Island and played with Reuben’s cousin Hannah.

Vancouver Island, Canada

We decided to visit Vancouver Island for a night as Reuben’s cousin Hannah is working at Camp Qwanoes on the island.  Vancouver Island is a two hour ferry ride away from Vancouver, and is a huge place. Hannah picked us up from the ferry and we went to Coombes, a quirky little place whose claim…

Vancouver, Canada

From San Francisco we headed up to Vancouver, where we had seven nights with my close friend Monica, who I worked with in New Zealand. It was awesome to see her life in Vancouver and explore there.  Some of our highlights were: Eating Ethiopian food at one of the three nearby Ethiopian restaurants – I…

San Francisco

We had two full days in San Francisco. We stayed in Oakland and caught the BART train into town on our first day, where we strolled around Union Square, walked to Chinatown where we found amazing food for lunch, and did a “tea tasting” where we tried different types of tea and eventually bought…

Piako goes to Costa Rica

In the middle of his travels through the USA, Piako went on a trip to Costa Rica…mostly because his owners had to make a little visa run.  Piako made the most of this unexpected treat by finding another cow on a bus, sunbathing at the ocean and climbing palm trees!

Los Angeles

On our last day in Los Angeles, we headed over to Pasadena to catch up with one of my former work colleague.  Holly and her husband Ewen are working at the Dream Centre and have been road tripping across the USA, so we had lots to talk about and compare notes on.     After…
