On Safari in Sri Lanka

We had planned a visit to Tissamaharama to do a safari to Yala national park to see leopards, and had booked accommodation accordingly.  We were rather dismayed to learn on arrival in Sri Lanka that the whole park was closed in September but decided to go to Tissa anyway and try a different park.  We wound up booking a trip to Lunugamvehera instead.  As it was an afternoon safari, we spent the morning biking around the lake next to our hotel and into the nearby town – it was a beautiful way to see a bit of the countryside!

The afternoon saw us in a jeep, headed towards the park.  We saw different birds, lots of deer, crocodiles, Langour monkeys and a herd of elephants that we saw at the water as the sun went down.  Although I was disappointed not to see leopards this was still an awesome safari experience!

    Happy days!
That cycle ride around the lake was really fun, but I think you can tell that I had not been on a bicycle for many years.

And I notice you did not share how the safari driver drove like a lunatic on the way back to Tissa. Whoops! Was that indiscrete?
