We decided to take the T and a bus to Salem, Massachusetts, which is a small town about an hour from Boston. Salem is mostly famous for its Witch Trials where 20 people were put to death after being accused of Witchcraft.  It was also a historical port town, and was the location for Nathaniel Hawthorne’s novel “The Scarlet Letter”.  We had a really nice day exploring this little town.

We went to the Witches’ Memorial – a memorial for the people who were put to death, and to the Salem Witch museum where we learned more about the history and what happened.

We then went down to the Salem Maritime Museum, where we took a guided tour on to the replica boat the “Friendship”, and toured through the Custos House where Nathaniel Hawthorne worked.  We really enjoyed our day trip.
