Driving through deserts and salt

We had a beautiful drive from Nevada to Wyoming. We started off very early in the morning and passed through stunning desert scenes and views of a rocky, barren landscape.

We passed the Bonneville Salt Flats where land speed records are set, and continued on to the Great Salt Lake in Utah. I had been there with my family as a child and remember being extremely unimpressed.  Time had not improved the experience! The Great Salt Lake offered a horrid smell, dead birds on the shore, lots of bugs and mud underfoot.

We left and headed for Salt Lake City, where we visited Temple Square, home of the Mormon Temple and surrounding buildings. We weren’t allowed in the temple but found it interesting looking around the visitor’s centre and grounds.

Ooh, the temple stuff must have been interesting! Dad went there years ago and really enjoyed it.

You didn’t try to set any land speed records on the way? 😀

Stunning desert scenes? All in the eye of the beholder, I guess.
I suppose the Great Salt Lake was on your way towards Wyoming… although even that seems a weak excuse!!
