Memphis, Tennessee

We arrived in Memphis with one main plan – to go see Graceland, Elvis Presley’s home. I (Karen) had been there with my family, but it was Reuben’s first time. We found a campsite right across the road at the Graceland RV Park, and headed over to see the house.

We opted for the tour that took us to see the house, car museum and plane museum. It was kind of pricey, but we decided that this was the main attraction so we might as well go for it.  Our first stop was his house – smaller than expected, and decorated in gaudy 1960’s decor.

It was really interesting to see his house and learn more about his life and music.  Having audio guides was cool, as it meant we could take as long as we wanted to look around.

Our next stop was the car museum, where a collection of Elvis’ vehicles was on display.

Finally, we headed over to look through his private planes. I imagine the interiors would have been the height of fashion when they were created!

I don’t remember there being quite so many tourist shops when we were last there – you could buy just about anything you could imagine there. Very tempted by the Elvis Mr Potato Head!
