We took an overnight bus from Mexico City to Reynosa, and then took another short one to McAllen, Texas. Unfortunately, we had misunderstood the connections and woefully underestimated the hour and a half it took Reuben to get through customs (in spite of applying online previously) and so missed our bus to Galveston by half an hour…and the next one wasn’t for eight hours. This clearly called for one thing – a walk to Taco Bell! We did attract a few stares with our packs but it was totally worth it to eat at my favourite fast food restaurant. We managed to get our next buses – one to Houston and another one to Galveston, Texas where we stayed for five nights with Reuben’s friend Katie and her husband Travis. We had a lot of fun hanging out with them and sharing their world. Some of the highlights of our time in Galveston were:
Swimming and body boarding at the beach which is only a 5 minute walk from Katie and Travis’ house.
Being treated to a special date night at Seagrass Steak House with a lovely walk on the beach (thanks Katie and Travis, you guys are awesome!)
Going to NASA in Houston and seeing the original Mission Control Room as well as lots of other space objects and touching a piece of the moon.

Spending an evening at the Pleasure Pier – an amusement park with lots of fun rides, built on a pier over the water.

Buying a car! I will write separately about this as it was quite a mission!

yah for taco bell. Looks like your car looks pretty good. Do tell the story at some stage!

Looks like you had fun in Galveston. Karen’s Uncle Joe & Aunt Anne will be interested to hear about your adventures there, since they spent a year or so living there. They never mentioned the pleasure pier to me!!

The Pleasure Pier is new – there used to be a hotel there that came down in a hurricane. They would not have experienced its joys!
