Hot pools and lakes

Following our climb of the Volcan Villarica, we were ready to relax! After a day of rest, we went to the Trancura hot pools close to Pucon and soaked…it felt so good to sit in the hot water!

On Good Friday we caught a bus back to Lake Calafquen, where we met up with Patrick, Trini and their parents. The weekend was a relaxed one – the highlight (apart from spending time with each other) was a trip that Patrick, Trini, Reuben and I took to Termas Geometricas – one of the most amazing hot pools complexes I have been to. There are 17 pools spread all along a stream flowing down from a waterfall, and the atmosphere was totally tranquil and stunning. We also managed to meet the first other New Zealanders of our trip there!

After the hot pools, we enjoyed an amazing barbecued salmon lunch – the food in Chile is amazing. We really enjoyed our relaxing Easter with Patrick and Trini and their families – and we could definitely get used to having siestas more often!

After Easter, we had a day in Temuco where we explored the market and managed to finally see Los Juegos del Hambre which we had both been wanting to see for awhile.

We have been so lucky to get to experience Chile with Patrick and his extended family – they have been amazing, gracious, generous hosts and we are having a great time!

I love termas. I think Patrick, Triny, Nicholas and I went to San Luis hotsprings, near Pucon. It was wonderful.

If you get up north to Putre, very near Peru and Bolivia, go to Termas de Jurasi, more than 3,500m up in the pre-cordillera. You’ll have the place to yourself, it’ll cost a couple thousand pesos, the views are beautiful, and there’s a cat.

Since I consider you guys to be quite the hot pool connoisseurs, I’ll definitely keep this in mind if I ever go to Chile. Glad you had such a great time there ❤
