We drove from Fox Glacier to Westport, stopping for lunch at Hokitika. The west coast put on a stunning day weather wise for us – none of the famous rain in sight. On Hokitika beach people had been really creative and made all kinds of driftwood sculptures – my favourite was the horse. We went to Punakaiki (the Pancake Rocks) on the way to Westport (chosen solely for being a half way point between Fox and Kaiteriteri, our next spot). The next day, we drove from Westport to Kaiteriteri, stopping for lunch at Lake Rotoiti in the Nelson Lakes district. We even managed a swim when we got to Kaiteriteri – the water felt tropical compared to the rest of the South Island!

So glad the weather was fine for you – it’s miserable there when it rains. Can’t believe you actually went swimming in the South Island! O_O
