Things we didn’t see in India but you totally should

As some of you know, we visited India for our honeymoon in 2010.  We saw a few wonderful places that we decided not to revisit this time – but these are five must-see sights in India.  The first and most obvious is the Taj Mahal – we visited here on a day trip from Delhi and absolutely loved it.  We were here in February, so it wasn’t really hot and we had lots of energy for walking around.  Pictures really don’t do this justice – yes, it is touristy and crowded, but it really is stunningly beautiful.

While in Agra we went to the second must-see sight – the Red Fort of Agra.  You can see the Taj from here, and strolling through the connecting palaces here was both relaxing and beautiful.

The third must-see is Humayun’s Tomb in Delhi. Located in Nizamuddin, this is a calm oasis in the midst of Delhi. We spent a couple of hours here wandering through the gardens, exploring the beautiful tombs and just soaking up the peaceful atmosphere.

The fourth must-see is the Jama Masjid in Old Delhi.  We loved exploring this mosque (be warned, even wearing long pants and long sleeves I was forced to hire a robe to cover up my outfit. So attractive!)  We climbed one of the towers for a view over Delhi before wandering through the bazaars – it is a crazy and beautiful part of town.

Lastly, the beautiful and amazing Goa, pictured above (which we would have gone to again if we had been here at the right time of year) – where beach shacks line the beaches, you can stroll along and eat at tables on the sand and you can feast on fresh fish and cheap cocktails. It doesn’t really get going until October/November so it has gone onto our “next trip to India” list!
