Segovia – an aqueduct and an alcazar

Segovia is a small town about an hour away from Madrid.  It was an easy bus ride to get there, and the whole town is pretty compact – you can walk around it and see everything.  We started our day at the Roman aqueduct which is right in the middle of town.  It was amazing – we followed it from its dramatic highest point and walked all the way to its beginning.  We seemed to be some of the only tourists who left the highest point – it was great to wander along beside it.

After the aqueduct we walked through the narrow streets to the Cathedral, which we admired from the outside before heading to the beautiful Alcazar.  This palace was stunning – it looked like a Disney palace and was beautifully decorated on the inside.  After exploring here, we walked back via the Jewish quarter and had a drink and tapa before catching the bus back to Madrid.

I agree, it does look like a Disney castle. Glad you enjoyed your day there — always a relief when one’s recommendation is confirmed!

Lachlan: Mum and I went to Segovia in 2003. It’s a great day trip from Madrid, huh?
