The Grand Canyon

After a long drive from Ouray (which included a stop at Four Corners, where 4 different states meet) we arrived at the Grand Canyon for sunset…just before the rains started.

We managed to get our tent up in the dark and the rain and were hoping to wake up to sunshine – but unfortunately the rains continued on throughout the next morning.  After a visit to the visitor’s centre, we decided to just go walking in the rain, but fortunately by about lunchtime it had cleared.

Sort of cleared…our first views were very misty!

We spent about 3 hours strolling along the rim trail, an easy walk that follows the canyon and stops at each major viewpoint. Our walk started with eerie mist, but by the time we had made it to the first viewpoint it had more or less cleared.

Amazing colours
Stunning views

We had some beautiful views along the way and enjoyed being able to take the free shuttle bus back when we got tired!  We watched another sunset that night, then popped back for one last look at the canyon before we drove on Las Vegas.
