We arrived in La Paz on Thursday in the early morning, tired and with salt and dust all through our clothes – we were ready for a rest! La Paz is a really cool city – it is the world’s highest capital at around 3,600 metres. The city is built on hills around a valley and even walking up a couple of blocks (or up to our second floor room) can literally take your breath away! We have been taking it easy here after an action packed last week, and some of our highlights have been:

Wandering down to the San Francisco church and running into friends from the Salt Flats tour, who we then had dinner with…sadly we had to go out in freezing weather in 3/4 pants due to all our warm clothes being in the wash!

Exploring the markets (including the creepy llama foetuses that are placed under house foundations – I couldn’t bring myself to take a photo as they freaked me out so much!)

Finding a full lunch of soup, meat and dessert for under $3 each.
Taking a local bus up to the Mirador Killi Killi to look out over the city.

Going to the National Museum of Art.

Strolling through the Plaza Murillo and seeing hundreds of pigeons that were being fed.

Discovering a new treat – jelly with whipped milk on top sold for 50 cents each.
Sleeping in, reading and relaxing, catching up on washing, re-energising and getting a feel for this city at a gentle pace.
