Puerto Viejo

We took a bus about half an hour down the coast from Cahuita to Puerto Viejo, where we spent two nights. Puerto Viejo is a bigger town than Cahuita but it has the same relaxed Caribbean vibe (and great food!) While we were there we relaxed with a picnic on the beach on our first day, and on our second day we hired bicycles and biked further south down the coast to the Jaguar Refuge, where they care for injured animals. Despite the name, there are no jaguars currently there – but they are caring for sloths, snakes, a deer, birds and baby monkeys. We got to play with and hold the baby monkeys – they were so incredibly cute!

We then biked further down the coast to Punta Uva,  a beautiful beach where we swam and relaxed.  After biking back to town (about 16km round trip) we went out for dinner with another 2 couples and had an incredible fusion meal and cocktails – a nice reward after our bike ride!

Such fantastic photos… especially the iguana. And of course, the baby monkey with the woman in the sushi t-shirt.
