Scooting, scandal and sacrifice in Koh Samui

To finish our time in Thailand, we had eight nights on the beautiful island of Koh Samui. Being the budget travel lovers that we are, we bought our bus tickets at the movie theatre in Bangkok (a little random, but it worked) and then headed on a 13 hour bus/ferry/bus/songtaew combo that brought us to Bill Resort at Lamai beach.  Despite it not being quite as sunny as we would have liked, we had an amazing time.

We hired a scooter and took it to explore the beautiful Chaweng beach (pictured above), where we sipped cocktails from 7/11 on the sand and I had a massage right on the beach.  (Got to love a country where an hour of massage costs $8 NZD!)

On another day we went to the equally stunning Mae Nam beach, where we picnicked and made friends with a dog which followed us all over the beach – it even tried to follow us into the water!

We explored the Sunday walking market, where you can buy $2 NZD cocktails to sip as you shop.  We went to see the Hobbit at Koh Samui’s only movie theatre.  We went clambering on the rocks at the end of our own beach (Lamai) and swam in the warm water there.

For the scandal side, we visited the Grandmother and Grandfather rocks (known as Hin Ta and Hin Yai) – the pictures really do speak for themselves.

We spent lots of time lazing by the pool, and ate lots of delicious food for dinner (lunch tended to get skipped after gorging ourselves on the breakfast buffet!) On our last day we gathered all of the things we no longer needed and took them down to the beach for a farewell sacrifice…the pictures tell the story!
