Mussoorie is one of the hill stations of India – a place where the British used to come to escape the heat of the plains. Nowdays Mussoorie is still a holiday location – and it is still wonderful to come up out of the heat! We went here overnight on our honeymoon – it was absolutely freezing then as we came in winter. This time, we took a bus up the winding switchback road from Dehradun, arriving at Mall Road. From there we walked up to Clock Tower – so named because until recently there was a famous clock tower there! Our hotel was located here, and we had great views from our room (the picture above is from our hotel room).

We spent three days in Mussoorie – we walked down to Mall Road, explored the many shops and walked to the other end of the Mall. We saw the ferris wheel that Reuben took me on for our honeymoon – it is run by a guy who runs round it like a mouse in a wheel – it goes surprisingly quickly and is quite scary!

We took a gondola up Gun Hill to see the fabulous views (sadly, the Himalayas were covered in cloud, just like last time).

Most importantly, we celebrated Reuben’s 33rd birthday in Mussoorie! We hiked the steep road up from Clock Tower to Landour to have toasted cheese sandwiches at one of Reuben’s favourite cafes, Char Dukan.

We walked a couple of tracks around Landour, trying unsuccessfully to see the Himalayas.

We ate a lot – parathas for breakfast, delicious dark chocolates, crackers and cheese and dinner at Kalsang Friends where we feasted on momos and chicken before finishing with a piece of birthday cake at Cafe Coffee Day. We really enjoyed coming back to the relaxed feel of Mussoorie and the beautiful views here – I would have loved to see the Himalayas though…guess we will just have to come back!

Would love to try the ferris wheel, I cant stop giggling thinking about the guy running inside to keep it going! How weird is that !!!!
