New York City – Part Two

Our second two days in New York City were as fun as the first two. On Saturday we walked up the river and onto the Highline, a relatively new raised walkway that extends for a couple of miles throughout the city.  We came off the Highline to check out the Chelsea Market and buy street food for a snack, before coming back up and walking the rest of the Highline.

We then walked over to the Empire State building and took in classic views of Manhattan over dusk and into the night.

On our last day in New York, we went to church in Harlem. I’m going to write a separate post about this as it was an unusual experience.  After church we found a place to get classic bagels and then walked from one end of Central Park to the other,  winding through to see the Castle, the Bow Bridge and Strawberry Fields.  We didn’t necessarily intend to walk the whole way – it was a long 51 blocks – but once we started we really enjoyed it.

After we left Central Park, we went to the famous toy store FAO Schwarz, and ended our time by visiting the still-under-construction memorial at the site of the World Trade Center.  It was a really beautiful memorial, and especially nice to see at night.

I wanted to buy impractical toys…

Still more bliss! The Central Park photos are wonderful. The park itself is wonderful — and well done you for walking the whole length!

The photo in FAO Schwartz reminded me that some things never change… Karen and her toys!!
