The main reason that we went to Valencia was to experience Las Fallas (which is a whole different blog post!) However, while we were there we did manage to see a few other things. We stayed in a stunning apartment outside of Valencia – the picture above is of the view. We visited the cathedral and climbed the tower for views over the city.
We checked out the Fallero museum, where they keep a small memento of each winning creation. It was really interesting to see how the creations have changed in both design and in materials over the years. The Fallero museum is located right next to a former river bed which was turned into a park after the river was diverted away from Valencia. Here we found one of the coolest playgrounds ever – a giant Gulliver from Gulliver’s Travels. You are never too old to play, so Sarah, Reubs and I joined the children sliding down Gulliver.
We also visited Museo des Belles Artes – a small museum with predominantly religious art, but still an interesting visit. We spent a morning on the beach – sadly, the wind was pretty strong, so although the beach was scenic it wasn’t the most pleasant sunbathing! The highlight of our time there was Las Fallas…stay tuned! The lowlight was saying goodbye to Sarah…after nearly a month of travel, she had to head back to work in Scotland. We had a blast travelling together!
